Found an old roll of 8mm film? Want to
know if it can still be processed?
As film technology changed over the years, so did the chemistry
and equipment required for processing. While nanolab specialises
in processing Super 8 and 8mm film, sadly the majority of the
'old' rolls you might come accross are not compatible with the
current processing chemistry and equipment we run. The most common
type of old film you are likely to come accross is Kodachrome.
Since Kodak stopped the manufacture and supply of the chemistry
for Kodachrome we are now no longer able to handle this stock.
Indeed nowhere in the world can now process Kodachrome in colour
- there simply is no chemistry available.
Here is a list of some of the most common types of old film we
are unable to help you with:
Kodachrome 40
Kodachrome II
Ektachrome 160
Ektachrome 160 type G
Agfachrome
Agfamoviechrome
Focal Film
Pacific Film
Perutz Film
For of these types of film, we suggest you send them to a lab
in Canada that specialises in old and antique film stocks: filmrescue.com
Filmrescue can still process some of these types of film as
colour (excluding Kodachrome of course). If they cannot process
it in colour, then as they do for Kodachrome, they will process
it as a black and white negative film which can then be transferred
to a positive on video. Do note that results will very much depend
on how old the film is and how it has been stored and could vary
from a reasonable image, to no image at all.
Nanolab can still process the following types
of 'old' colour super 8 film as well of course as the current
types of stock we sell.:
Ektachrome 7240 (in a black and red box)
Ektachrome SM 7244
as well as any type of old black and white film such as any type
of Tri-X or Plus-X film.
